Public start-up funding in Poland

The ecosystem of the Polish business incentives is quite robust and includes tax incentives as well as grants for innovative projects. Below you will find the overview of Polish environment of public (non-dilutive) start-up funding

Start-up public funding is available in Poland at almost any stage of start-up growth.

The main features of Polish programmes providing for a non-dilutive financing to start-ups are presented below:

Startup Platforms (Platformy Startowe):

  • This three phase program is addressed to founders of very early-stage startups (before MVP)
  • Total amount of grants available within Startup Platforms programme is PLN 2,6 million
  • Foreign founders are free to apply to Startup Platforms, however, the structure of the programme requires setting-up of the company in Poland.

Startup Booster Poland

  • Program is generally addressed to start-ups (companies) active on the moarket for not more than 5 years
  • Program offers grant in the amount of PLN 200k / PLN 400k depending on the route taken by the start-up (it is possible to use more than one route)
  • Foreign founder may apply to Startup Booster Poland through the Polish company or as a foreign startup using the Poland Prize route.

Regional programs for R&D grants

  • Majority of Polish regions (województwo) offer grants to R&D / innovative projects to businesses (companies) located in a given region
  • The amount of available grants vary depending on the region and typically are in the range from PLN 5 million to +PLN 20 million
  • Foreign businesses may apply for the regional grants for R&D projects through the company registered in Poland.

Smart Track (Ścieżka Smart)

  • Smart Track is the largest Polish programme offering grants to R&D / innovative projects
  • The maximum amount of available grant is PLN 50 million
  • Foreign businesses may apply to Ścieżka Smart through the company registered in Poland. Ścieżka Smart is also available to consortium of companies or companies and research entities (including universities).
